Chord diagrams

Introduction

A tablature represents the position of your right hand fingers.
Chord diagrams represent the position of your left hand fingers.

You can ask for calculating the chord diagrams for all fretted string instruments, even those you defined yourself.

On Harmony Assistant, chord diagrams for keyboard are also available.

Where to use them ?

The chord diagrams can be displayed :

- as independent objects related to a stave, via Windows > Miscellaneous palette
- in a chord line related to the stave, "Staves > Chord display" menu option
- in the chord grid related to the document, from the chord grid contextual menu

Calculation

Chord diagrams are computed automatically from the chord name. They are picked from a diagram database provided with the program but you can modify it on yoir computer ("Configuration > Edit chord diagrams" menu)

You can define special chord diagrams, related to a stave chord line or to the document chord grid. These diagrams are then used in priority.

Note : Chord diagram name is free. For instance you can name your chords Cm(1) and Cm(2) if you want two variants for this chord on your stave. You'll just need to enter these names in the chord line.

Chord diagrams in chord line

On fretted string instruments, chord diagrams can be of two types, open chords or barrés. When setting up the chord line, you can select this.

Printing

Printing options let you add at the end of the document, for each stave:
- The list of different chord diagrams that can be found on the stave
- The chord grid for this stave, along with a  chord diagram for each chord
