Scorch is an Internet plug-in that allows you to see and hear Sibelius files online. It works about the same way as the Myriad Music Plug In which allows you to see and hear HA files online. To be more precise, in other words, Scorch is not a file, it is a plug in.

| OK. I notice that the Scorch files at www.schubertline.co.uk have a .sco extension (e.g. http://www.schubertline.co.uk/Scorchshop/scores/faureadieub.sco): so is that the same as a .sib file?

As far as I know, ".sco" file extension is not SibeliusMusic extension. Many programs use this extension namely games to maintain the scores of the players. In music, Csounds (http://www.csounds.com/) is a user of this extension. This program is a sound rederer, so may be the site you gave uses this program to render sounds for the users or some other uses. All Sibelius files, on the Internet or elsewhere must carry the .sib extension. Most sites that carry Sibelius files make them available for printing through Scorch only and very rarely give the opportunity to download the files from the Internet.

| On my system, the .SCO extension is defined as 'Sibelius Scorch Score' and associated with Internet Explorer. I assume this association is set up when you install the Scorch plug-in. By way of an experiment, downloaded one of these .sco files and renamed it to .sib: when I double-clicked on it, it opened in IE with the Scorch plug-in (albeit with a warning about Active Content). I'm guessing that a .sco file is just a .sib file that has been renamed.

| I tried to change the extension as you mentioned, but it didn't worked for me (I'm on a Mac). Quote:I'm guessing that a .sco file is just a .sib file that has been renamed. |
| What you say makes sense, may be the sib file has to be changed a little and need to be encoded in some way to make it usable on line while keeping it "protected" in some way

I use HA with virtual singer to produce learning tracks for a Barbershop chorus and a mixed SATB choir. Both the musical directors use Sibelius for their unique arrangements and to produce a HA version I have to convert to MIDI in Sibelius and the import the MIDI to HA. Sometimes it works well and sometimes not depending on the music. I would welcome a Sibelius import feature which is why I voted yes.

| No version of Sibelius, even the latest Version 4, exports MusicXML natively. You have to purchase an add-on from Recordare called "Dolet 1" (for Sibelius 1 through 3 -- will not work with Sibelius 4!) for $69.95 or "Dolet 3" (for Sibelius 4) for $129.95 ($79.95 upgrade from Dolet 1) -- in other words, at minimum you have to buy the equivalent of a new copy of Harmony Assistant! Dolet 3 exports MusicXML 1.1 (http://www.musicxml.org/dtds/versions.html), not 1.0. Dolet 1 exports MusicXML 1.0, not 1.1. Which version(s) does Harmony Assistant's MyrScripts support for import and export?
